Introduction

Please be aware – A customer needs to call Customer support to get their blue light use case verified & unlocked for selection.

“Blue light services” is a term commonly used to refer to emergency services collectively. These services are essential for maintaining public safety and well-being, as they operate around the clock to respond to emergencies. Their work often involves high-pressure situations that require a rapid response, specialised skills, and close coordination.

Blue light customers

Please be aware – A blue light message type is not available for every customer to use.

The types of customers & the nature of the messages that qualify for Blue Light status may vary by country, based on the range of emergency & other services available.

Blue light status is strictly reserved for:
  • Traditional (public sector) emergency services
    • Police
    • Fire
    • Ambulance
    • Coastguard/ Search & Rescue
  • Government agencies delivering critical alerts
    • Weather warnings
    • Flood warnings
    • Hurricane alerts
    • Evacuation orders
  • Critical government (public sector) infrastructure
    • Water supply – industrial discharge into a river, polluting the local water supply.
    • Electric supply – disruption caused by storm damage, affecting key services – e.g. hospitals.
    • Hospitals – critical change in the status of a patient being monitored.
  • Other emergency services
    • Organisations which fulfill a similar role to the public sector or government agencies.
    • Self-funding and/or have charitable status.
      • Example (UK):
        • Lifeboat rescue (RNLI)
        • Mountain rescue
        • Air Ambulance
Who does not qualify for Blue Light priority:

While a comprehensive list cannot be provided, the following examples are offered for clarity and illustration.

  • Examples (UK&I)
    • Roadside breakdown – AA/RAC/Green Flag would not qualify.
    • Hospital – Appointment reminder messages would not qualify.
